Clovelly is pretty village, which is built into the steep hillside. It is very historic and famous throughout the world and unusually is privately owned by the same family since 1738, who care for the village and keep it in the style of the 19th century. This involves quality maintenance using traditional materials and craftsmanship. The village consists of a single cobbled high street, which has been pedestrianised and which winds down the hillside through the traditional whitewashed cottages down to the small harbour and pebbled beach.
There is also a beautiful waterfall on the beach. The legend says that the cave behind the waterfall is where the magician Merlin was born.
